BE THE CHANGE
CREATING A BETTER FUTURE
AWAN will now measure and offset the carbon footprint of each item you purchase from us!

The fashion industry is one of the worst offenders when it comes to sustainability.
▸ 85% of all our clothes end up in landfills. Mountains of clothes the size of Mount Everest fill the landfills every 7 minutes.
▸ Over 60% of all our clothes are made of plastic, which fills our seas and rivers with microplastics.
▸ New EU laws will soon come into effect to regulate consumption and overproduction, forcing the industry into a circular economy.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
Measuring & offsetting our impact
The AWAN concept & business model is already built on circular principles, which means every part is optimised for circularity.
But full circularity in fashion, as in any industry, is today still very difficult to achieve. That's why we love to collaborate with other innovative partners to better understand and minimise the environmental impact of our business and our products.
With Sustie, we can now for the first time actually measure and offset the carbon footprint of each item you purchase from us.
Here's how it works!
STEP 1
Measuring Our Carbon Footprint
What is a Carbon Footprint?
A carbon footprint is the total estimated amount of greenhouse gas emissions emitted by producing and shipping our products.
How Do We Calculate it?
- Data Collection: We start by gathering detailed information on every piece of merchandise we sell, including where and how our materials are sourced and produced.
- Product footprint analysis: We then analyse the entire lifecycle of our products—from raw materials, production, and transportation to your shopping cart.
- Emission Factors: By applying emission factors (standard values that estimate the emissions produced by an activity, like manufacturing a kilogram of fabric), we can estimate the total emissions for each product.
STEP 2
Compensating Through the Voluntary Carbon Market
Offsetting Our Emissions
After calculating our footprint, we compensate for it by investing in environmental projects around the world through the voluntary carbon market*. These projects are carefully chosen to ensure they make a real difference. They include:
Direct air capture:
Removing CO2 directly from the atmosphere.
Biomass sinking:
Using natural process to rebalance the carbon cycle
Enhanced rock weathering:
Supporting projects that use crushed basalt rock spread on farm land that naturally absorb atmospheric CO2 and improves soil health.
*Why the Voluntary Carbon Market?
The voluntary carbon market allows businesses like ours to support environmental projects that not only offset carbon but also promote biodiversity, clean water, and local community benefits.
OUR PROMISE TO YOU
Transparency and Continuous Improvement
AWAN is (one of) the first fashion brands in Norway to measure & offset our carbon footprint in this way.
And we promise to keep you in the loop with our learnings on our circular journey.
Our calculations and compensations are tracked and updated regularly, and we are always looking for ways to increase our efficiency and reduce our environmental impact.
